A CART FOR TRANSPORTING A CANOE/KAYAKThe present invention concerns a cart for transporting forexample canoes and kayaks. The cart is provided with two wheels connected with a frame.
Known artIt is previously known carts on the market for this purpose. They have all different drawbacks, such as bulky, expensive, and weak and so on.
Summary of the inventionThe aim of the present invention is to provide a cart that willalleviate at least some of the problems with known carts.
According to an aspect of the present invention the cart fortransporting a canoe/kayak comprises a frame and two wheelsconnected to the frame. The frame is made in one piece or morethan one piece, which pieces are separably connected in a waythat when connected the frame functions as it had been in onepiece. The frame comprises a ground support integrated in theframe and two support portions for supporting a canoe/kayakwhen the cart is in use. The support portions are more or lessoriented in the same direction as the travelling direction ofthe wheels and the support portions are flexibly bent outwardswhen loaded with, for example, a kayak, thus providing a clamp- ing force towards each other, securing a load, for example akayak.
By means of this feature the cart will be easy to manufacture, thus less expensive, and sturdier and can take up loads betterwithout weakening joints or connections. It will also be pos-sible to make the cart lightweight. It will also give the cart a clean and professional design. 160077315 Having a ground support integrated in the frame will make theuse of the cart much easier as it will not be needed to hold the cart in a raised position when loading the cart.
When the support portions are more or less oriented in the samedirection as the travelling direction of the wheels the ca-noe/kayak will be supported in a stable way, especially if ithas a more or less V>shaped hull. The support portions are flexibly bent outwards when loaded with, for example, a kayak, thus providing a clamping force towards each other, load, securing a for example a kayak.
According to an embodiment the two support portions are con-nected via a ground support, which ground support comprises abend of the frame towards the ground. Preferably the groundsupport is connected to an end of each support portion, whichends are positioned at the same side of a thought wheelbase axis.
According to an embodiment of the cart the frame is a tubular frame, preferably made of aluminium. That will make the cart lightweight.
According to an embodiment of the cart the wheels are detach- able from the frame. Thus the cart will be easy to stove, for example in the canoe/kayak.
According to an embodiment of the cart the frame is providedwith friction enhancing and protecting material at at least aportion of the support portions. This will both protect the load and stabilise it on the cart.
According to an embodiment of the cart an inner stop is provided on the frame on the inside of each wheel where the inner stop 160077315 is fitted without causing any weakening of the frame. Prefer- ably the inner stop is a tube provided on the frame.
Short description of drawings The present invention will now be described in more detailunder referral to attached drawings, in which:Fig. l shows an embodiment of the inventive cart in a perspec- tive view.
Fig. 2 shows an embodiment of the inventive cart in a frontview.Fig. 3 shows an embodiment of the inventive cart in a sideview.Fig. 4 shows an embodiment of the inventive cart in a top view.Fig. 5 shows an embodiment of a frame having more than onepiece.Fig. 6 shows an embodiment of the inventive cart in use loaded with a kayak, in partial view.
Detailed description of embodiments of the invention As an example an embodiment of the inventive cart will now bel an embodiment of a cart l is shown in a which described. In Fig.perspective view comprising a frame 2 and two wheels 3,are connected to the frame 2. As can be seen the frame 2 ismade in one piece going from a first wheel 3 to a second wheel3. The frame 2 lacks connections or joints. Thus a robust frame2 is provided without any weak points. Preferably an integratedground support 4 is provided by means of a bend 6 in the frame2, which bend 6 is bent downwards to the ground. See for exampleFigs. l and 2.The frame 2 provides at least one support portion 5, in theshown embodiment two support portions 5, for taking up the loadof for example a canoe/kayak. According to the shown embodiment the support portions 5 are directed in more or less the same 160077315 direction as the travelling direction of the wheels 3. The twosupport portions 5 are connected by means of the frame 2,preferably this portion of the frame between the support por-tions 5 is the ground support 4. The portion of the frame 2 orthe ground support 4 is connected to an end 7 of each supportportion 5. These ends 7 are positioned at the same side of athought wheelbase axis 8, see Fig. 4.
Preferably the two support portions 5 may flex outwardly whenloaded with for example a kayak due to the inherent springcapacity of the frame 2. The ground support portion 4 of theframe 2 will act more or less as a torsion spring on each sideof the bend 6. Thus the frame 2 will spring back and provide a clamping force towards the load, such as kayak. This is espe-cially true when the load has a more or less V-shaped hull orin other ways protrude downwards in between the support por-tions 5. In this way the load will be secured at the cart l,without the need of any strapping to hold the load on the cart l. 5 an embodiment of a frame is shown where the frame is llb and llc.
In Fig.made up by three pieces lla, Two side pieces lla,llb are mirrored in shape and interconnected via a connectionpiece llc. lla, In the shown embodiment at least the side piecesllb are tubular and the connection piece llc fits, llb. pref- erably snugly, inside the side pieces lla, The pieces aresecured or firmly connected to each other with a hole l4 goingthrough the side pieces lla, llb and the connection piece llc in their ends portions. A screw, bolt or pin l5 is providedthrough the hole l4 to secure or firmly connect the piecestogether. llc, A protrusion 13 is provided on the connection piece one for each side piece lla, llb. The protrusion 13 coop- erates with a recess l2 at the end of the side piece lla, llb. 160077315 Thus a firm connection is provided which are capable of takingup torsion forces.
Preferably, the support portions are provided with frictionenhancing and protecting material 9 at at least a portion ofthe support portions 5. In the shown embodiment two pieces of material 9 are provided on each support portion 5.
It is preferred that the wheels 3 are detachable from the frame2. Preferably the frame 2 is a tubular frame 2 for example madeof aluminium although other materials also are conceivable. Inorder not to weaken the frame 2 inner stops lO are provided onthe frame 2 on the inside of the wheels 3 to inhibit the wheelsto move along the frame 2. These inner stops will preferablybe fitted without making any holes or the like in the frame 2.For example they could be press fitted onto the frame 2. Inthe shown embodiment the inner stop lO is a tube which isprovided all the way to the bend in order to be easily arranged but still not movable due to the tightness at the bend.
The above detailed description is for exemplifying the in-ventive cart. It may be embodied in different ways within the scope of the following claims. 160077315
